This is undoubtedly the craziest literary prize in France. The Flore prize was awarded this Thursday, November 7, 2024 to Benjamin Stock for his first novel Marc. He won with 11 votes in his favor compared to just one for Joy Majdalani.
After the deliberations which took place at the Café de Florein Saint-Germain-des-Prés (6th), Benjamin Stock finally succeeded Maria Pourchet, 2023 winner.
Champagne and a pig
In addition to the gain in notoriety offered by this award, the Flore prize also stands out in awarding an endowment of 6,150 euros. Also, the winner will be able to enjoy a glass of Pouilly-Fumé engraved with the winner's name for an entire year.
He can then use this glass for life at the Café de Flore.
In France, most literary prizes do not award an award to the winner. The Goncourt Prize, the oldest and most prestigious of them, awards a symbolic check worth ten euros. Only Jacques Chessex, who received the distinction in 1973, cashed the check. Abroad, other original rewards exist.
The most extravagant is undoubtedly the one from the United Kingdom. Le Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize rewards its winners with a batch of Bollinger champagne and a pig named in honor of the winning book.
