A second suspect in the investigation into the stabbing murder of a young man in on November 2 was indicted for murder and imprisoned, the prosecution announced this Thursday.

The investigation into the murder of a young man in the lobby of a building in Rennes this Saturday, November 2 continues. A suspect was indicted for murder and imprisoned, the prosecution announced this Thursday, November 7.

This is a 22-year-old man already convicted of acts of violence, kidnapping and sequestration and possession of drugs, specifies the Rennes public prosecutor, Frédéric Teillet.

He is “suspected of having participated in the assassination” of a 19-year-old young person, Saturday afternoon near the Pontchaillou University Hospital. At the end of his police custody, he was “presented to the investigating magistrate who indicted him for murder” and he was placed in pre-trial detention, “as requested by the Rennes public prosecutor's office”, adds Frédéric Teillet .

“A dispute” at the origin of the murder

The victim was hit by two people while he was on a footbridge overlooking the railway tracks near the university hospital. One of the attackers stabbed him several times, the second then made him fall to the ground and punched him in the face, the prosecutor said at the start of the week.

Two witnesses immediately intervened to help the victim and take her to the emergency room, where she died. In the evening, an 18-year-old boy presented himself to the Rennes police station, admitting to being the author of the stabbings. He explained in police custody “that he wanted to settle a 'dispute' with the victim, without specifying what nature, and that to do this, he had bought a knife shortly before the events”, according to the prosecutor.

Drug trafficking in Rennes: residents expect concrete and lasting measures

This young person was also indicted and imprisoned on Monday after his custody. Even if the two suspects as well as the victim are known to the courts for offenses related to drug trafficking, the link with the murder has not been formally established at this stage of the procedure.

This murder occurred the day after the visit to Rennes of the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleauwho notably visited the popular neighborhood of Maurepas, a hotbed of drug trafficking and the scene of several settling of scores in recent months.
