In an interview with Asharq on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi International Oil Show (ADIPEC) 2024 which takes place from November 4 to 7, 2024, Mathios Rigas said: “We drilled an offshore well in Morocco, but we did not find what we hoped for. From our point of view, there has been no notable progress in this field, and the results of the drilling did not meet our expectations.
Although drilling operations have not met the company’s forecasts, Energean’s CEO points out that “gas is there, but perhaps better suited to a smaller company than ours. It would be preferable to call on a smaller company to continue this project”.
Mathios Rigas refused to disclose the extent of the discoveries after the drilling operations carried out in the Anchois field, claiming that the results had not been published by the government. However, the company had previously indicated that the field in question constituted the largest undeveloped discovery in the country, containing 18 billion m3 of gas, continues the same source. In reality, the certification covered a minimum of 18 billion m3 of recoverable and marketable natural gas. Morocco currently consumes 1 billion m3 per year.
Last September, the Chariot company also announced that several good quality gas reservoirs were found in the Anchois-3 well on the “Anchois” field, located in the Lixus offshore license, off the coast of Morocco (Energean 45% , operator, Chariot 30%, ONHYM 25%). However, Chariot CEO Adonis Pouroulis said the thicknesses of the gas columns in this well are now interpreted to be “lower than the pre-drilling geological model estimates.”
