“I come from a family of art enthusiasts,” says Maike Cruse, director of Art Basel. My parents and my grandparents always visited museums and I was exposed to art very early on. I studied art, but I quickly realized that I didn’t want to become an artist myself.” The 2024 edition is the first that she is leading. But his experience is rich. She was the head of the Weekend gallery in Berlin, she worked at the Berlin KW (Kunst Werke, Institute for Contemporary Art) and for a time worked in communications at Art Basel.
