Prince William continues his awareness-raising mission in South Africa. On the occasion of the 4th edition of the Earthshot Prize, an initiative he launched in 2020 to reward innovative solutions for the environment, the heir to the British throne met the 2024 finalists in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens , in Cape Town.
Among the finalists present, Desmond Alugnoa described his meeting with the prince as “a casual conversation” where a curious William learned about their projects and the potential impact of the prize for young people in Africa and beyond. For her part, Vera Voronova welcomed this recognition at “such a high level” and expressed her gratitude for the prince’s support for conservation.
William’s visit to Cape Town, where the awards ceremony will be held for the first time on the African continent, marks a symbolic step in promoting sustainability. During his stay, the prince also visited Table Mountain National Park, where he met rangers and discussed the protection of this vast urban ecosystem of 220 km² which extends into certain suburbs of the city.
