Philippine’s alleged murderer extradited from Switzerland
Initially arrested on September 24 in GenevaTaha Oualidat had first refused to be extradited to Francebefore finally accepting a simplified procedure, allowing a rapid transfer. This development has reignited anger and indignation in France, in particular because of the suspect’s background. After being sentenced to seven years in prison for the rape of a student in 2019 in Val-d’Oisehe was released in June 2024. Awaiting deportation, he was under house arrest in an administrative detention center then in a hotel in Yonne, where he never showed up.
A non-applied OQTF
The disappearance of Philippine, a student at Paris-Dauphine University, aroused great emotion in France. She was last seen September 20and his body was found the next day, partially buried in the Bois de Boulognenear his university. The murder of the young woman has relaunched the debate on expulsions and the reintegration of repeat offenders into society.
After his release in June, Taha Oualidat received a Obligation to Leave French Territory (OQTF). The Moroccan authorities had issued the pass necessary for his expulsion on September 4but he was already on the run. Less than three weeks later, Philippine’s body was discovered, amplifying criticism of the Macronist government’s management of expulsions.
