Children’s literature | Mitis salmon wins the TD Prize

Actress and author Christine Beaulieu received one of the most prestigious awards in the field of children’s literature in the country on Wednesday.

His book Mitis salmonbeautifully illustrated by Caroline Lavergne, won the TD Prize for Canadian Children’s and Young People’s Literature. The two creators thus share a grant of $50,000.

Adaptation of the play of the same name, Mitis salmon immerses young readers in the skin of this fish whose life is turned upside down by human action.

“I realized that humans are the only species capable of imagining themselves in the head of a salmon or another animal. I tell myself that this power must come with great responsibility. If we do nothing, if we do not take care of other species, it means that we are failing in our role,” he confided to The Press the author at the time of the book’s release, in September 2023.
