The Chalon – ASVEL match to be replayed!

This is a rare occurrence. After submitting a complaintASVEL was heard by the Federal High-Level Commission of Officials. It was agreed that the Betclic Elite match between Chalon and , initially won by Elan (109-107, ap), will have to be replayed.

ASVEL contested a situation that occurred 8.2 seconds from the end of regulation time when Joffrey Lauvergne was on free throws (74-79). Pierric Poupet requested a change (Shaquille Harrison for Lee) and a buzzer sounded in the Coliseum. After a moment of hesitation, the interior stopped and turned around before missing its first shot. The change was made, contrary to the regulations, between the two shots. Subsequently, Villeurbanne had snatched a miraculous extension before bowing in an incredible extratime.

“This imbroglio is totally ludicrous and unfair” – Julien Espinosa, sports director of Elan Chalon

As everyone can imagine, the decision is hard to swallow within Elan Chalon. Julien Espinosa, the sports director, has already announced in the columns of the Journal de Saône-et- his intention to appeal.

« This is a totally disproportionate decision. Each person who rewatches the sequence of Joffrey Lauvergne's free throw will be able to see that he had time to restart his shooting routine. And shoot his free throw. Of course, in the noise but no one stopped him from shooting. (…) From a purely sporting point of view, I find it totally crazy and disproportionate to have a match replayed for facts of this nature. ASVEL's complaint goes back to the referees' judgment although it initially concerns the change granted between two free throws. This imbroglio is totally ludicrous. And unfair. As a result, we have no other option than to use a specialist lawyer. And to appeal to the competent court (FFBB appeals chamber). »
