The city of Antananarivo and its surroundings are going through a real black streak, marked by a succession of fires which hit several neighborhoods in the space of just two days. This weekend, between Saturday and Sunday, firefighters from the Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) recorded no less than six fires, causing chaos and causing significant material damage.

One of the first reported fires took place in Tsiazotafo Behoririka, where a garage and a wooden dwelling were completely engulfed in flames. In this same incident, three cars and three containers were destroyed, despite the interventions of firefighters, who fought against the flames to try to save certain property. In Andohatapenaka, a house was also engulfed in fire, adding to general concern.

Firefighters were also mobilized to extinguish a 5-hectare bush fire in Masinandriana, in the locality of Ankadikely Ilafy. Finally, in Amparibe, a fire devastated an area of waste of almost 100 square meters. These disasters put a strain on the Tsaralalàna teams and the residents, who, despite their efforts, were often overwhelmed by the scale of the flames.

For now, the exact causes of this series of fires remain unclear. The authorities have not yet communicated official explanations, but hypotheses are circulating, in particular that of a failure of the electricity network, which is in great demand during this period of drought. Neither the police nor the electricity company JIRAMA have confirmed this hypothesis, leaving the population in uncertainty for the moment.

Faced with this alarming situation, local authorities are calling on residents to be extra vigilant. In this dry season, marked by increased risks of fire, precautions are essential. Electrical failures and negligence in prevention can turn into real disasters. Local authorities emphasize their commitment to strengthening security, but they also insist on collective responsibility to avoid new tragedies.
