Following the deadly floods in the south-east of Spain, the fear of finding bodies in flooded underground car parks remains.
In Spain, in silence and darkness, in a boat, rescuers move centimeter by centimeter in a parking lot flooded underground. They examine the smallest debris and were able to inspect around fifty cars. Vehicle wrecks were pulled from the water and no bodies were discovered. The population's concern is great, because it is the underground parking lot of a large shopping center with nearly 5,000 spaces. The inhabitants are convinced that it could have turned into a death trap, while the human toll amounts to at least 217 deaths, including 213 in the Valencia region alone, three in Castile-La Mancha.
In the parking lot of a residence, between the wrecks, a firefighter leads the France Télévisions teams to the second basement, to show a white car still submerged. “It’s the car of a resident who was found dead”explains Jose Hernandez, Aldaia firefighter. The work is colossal to inspect all the car parks. Firefighters tirelessly pump the water.
