This Monday, Barcelona was placed on red alert due to torrential rains: 150 mm of water fell in the space of 4 hours, a significant accumulation, but which does not reach the record of September 1953 (187 mm) .

In 24 hours, around 200 mm of rain fell in Barcelona. The streets were flooded, as were the highways and the airport, which had to cancel dozens of flights.

In Tarragona, another city affected by floodsfloods100 mm of rain was recorded this Monday. Further mudslides occurred, particularly in Castelldefels.

A disrupted weather situation until Wednesday

The Barcelona region will continue to be affected by several bursts of stormy rain until Wednesday evening, before a finally calmer situation. However, the showers which will fall over the next few days in the same area should be less intense than those which occurred this Monday.

An accumulation of another 50mm is possible in Barcelona by Wednesday evening. On the other side of the country, northwest Spain will in turn be swept by heavy rains on Tuesday due to the arrival of ex-tropical storm Patty.
