For many, the fact that Mercedes' compact models used Renault engines for a few years sparked some outrage. But if we except the Citan/T-Class, which is of course a restyled Kangoo, this supply of engines lasted much shorter than one might think. With the upcoming launch of the new CLA, the French manufacturer will once again be, very indirectly, involved in the engines of compact Mercedes.
Horse
We learn that the new 2.0 liter petrol engine which will equip the CLA will be produced in China, by Horse. Horse is a joint venture between Renault and the Chinese group Geely, whose mission is to take over the development of thermal mechanics for both entities. And therefore also for Mercedes, whose engineers co-developed the new block with Geely. Note that this partnership does not come out of nowhere, since Mercedes and Geely already share the destiny of Smart, and Geely owns 10% of Mercedes. That's all it takes to start the guesswork machine… New synergies between Renault and Mercedes? Maybe, but let's go further: Geely is also… Volvo, which has just revised its promise of total electrification. This is interesting.
