Pro-Palestinian activists mobilized this Monday at the headquarters of the French Football Federation (FFF) to protest against the holding of the Nations League match between France and Israel, scheduled for November 14 at the Stade de France, reported the local press.
Around twenty activists took over the headquarters of the FFF, located on Boulevard de Grenelle in Paris (7th arrondissement), most of them wearing keffiyehs and Palestinian flags and brandishing signs on which one could read: “No to the France-match Israel at the Stade de France”, “it didn’t start on October 7”, “FFF Ban Israel” or even “Genocide Champions League”.
The protesters sat on the floor in the Federation hall, some of them wearing clothes stained with fake blood and remained lying on the ground next to fake corpses wrapped in white shrouds.
At the initiative of the Stop Genocide collective, this mobilization is working towards the cancellation of the meeting. “We are scandalized by the announcement of such a match. In other countries, like Belgium, the match against Israel was canceled. Elsewhere, they relocated it or held it behind closed doors,” he said. the headquarters of the FFF, a spokesperson for the collective, in front of the cameras of the journalists present.
According to the Team, the operation ended at 5 p.m. (local time). “After negotiations, a delegation will be received tomorrow (Tuesday) by the FFF concerning the France-Israel match,” reports journalist Luc Auffret, present on site, relayed by the sports daily.
Last Friday, the rebellious MP, Louis Boyard (La France insoumise), requested the cancellation of the match, invoking article 4 of the FIFA statutes. “I want to put an end to double standards. Why are we imposing sanctions on Russia or Belarus and not on Israel?” he asked. The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, however, assured that the meeting would indeed take place. “We are in France and we must be able to enforce public order,” he declared on BFMTV-RMC.
The Israeli army has continued its deadly offensive against the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, ignoring UN Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire. The death toll from this offensive increased this Monday to 43,374 deaths, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. These attacks have also resulted in the displacement of almost the entire population of the territory, while an ongoing blockade has caused serious shortages of food, drinking water and medicine.
