The jazz world mourns one of its legends. This Sunday, November 3, trumpeter Quincy Jones died at the age of 91 in Los Angeles. In 1982, the musician notably produced Thrillerone of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits. The man who started his career in the 1950s had lived for a long time with a renowned actress named Peggy Lipton. And if her name doesn’t mean anything to you, you most likely loved her in one of the most popular series in history: Twin Peaks. Launched in 1990, the show featured her in the guise of Norma Jennings, the manager of the Double R diner, a roadside restaurant where all of Twin Peaks, including the protagonist Dale Cooper played by Kyle MacLachlan, comes to dine.
The actress, who had been a model since adolescence, joined the cast of David Lynch’s series at the age of 45, after having already shone in various successful television dramas. Among them, The Invaders, M. Novack or even Alfred Hitchcock’s Hour. For his role in The Mod SquadPeggy Lipton won the Golden Globe for best actress in a television drama series in 1970. In total, she was nominated four times for this award and as many at the Emmy Awards. 25 years after the finale of season 2, in 2017, she will reprise the role of Norma Jennings for an exceptional season 3 of Twin Peaks. Suffering from colon cancer since 2004, Peggy Lipton will die in 2019, at age 72.

Married from 1974 to 1990, Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton welcomed two daughters, Kidada and Rashida Jones, who also became actresses. Rashida Jones, 48 years old today, is particularly known for her roles in sitcoms The Office et Parks and Recreationbut also for having played the leading role ofOn the Rocksthe comedy by Sofia Coppola released in 2020, alongside Bill Murray. Since 2023, the companion of Ezra Koenig, leader of the group Vampire Weekend, is also in the cast of the science fiction series Silowhere she plays one of the heroines with Rebecca Ferguson. Kidada Jones has played in productions less known to the general public, but has mainly distinguished herself in fashion. The fifty-year-old was notably a designer for the Walt Disney Company.
