Google is updating the Quick Share module on Android to allow you to better keep track of ongoing file transfers.
On Android, Quick Share, the rapid wireless file sharing module, will gain ground. Google is rolling out an update to its utility to make it easier for you to track the progress of a file transfer. Quick Share will now display the transfer percentage during a file share in progress.
Easily track file sharing progress
Similar to Apple's AirDrop, Quick Share allows you to easily share files, photos and videos without a wired connection, from an Android smartphone to another mobile device or a Windows PC. But until now, the module lacked clarity regarding the possibility of following the evolution of a file sharing on the recipient side. Google did not initially consider it necessary to integrate a progress bar worthy of the name.
The problem is now resolved thanks to the latest update of the module, which Google started deploying a few days ago and which is still being deployed. The new version of the utility now displays on the device of the recipient of a file sharing, a tracking bar with the percentage of progress of the current file transfer.
Be careful, however, the percentage display in the transfer progress bar is not always visible, especially when sharing small files. The module will thus be more particularly relevant in the context of a transfer of large files. The progress percentage in Quick Share is in principle already available on the majority of Google Pixel smartphones, as well as on Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
Last January, the wireless file sharing module of the two manufacturers was merged to become the unified Quick Share solution. Into a unified solution seen by Google as the best default option for peer-to-peer file transfer on Android.
