Russia claims capture of village near Pokrovsk
Russia claimed this Sunday the capture of a village located about ten kilometers south of Pokrovsk, a key logistical node for Ukrainian forces in the east of the country, reportsAFP.
“Units of the Center troop group liberated the town of Vishnevé following offensive operations”the Russian Defense Ministry said in its daily report.
The day before, the Russian army had already claimed the capture of two new villages in eastern Ukraine, where its soldiers have been gaining ground since the start of the year against fewer and less armed Ukrainian troops.
The city of Pokrovsk, one of the main objectives of Russian forces in this sector of the front, is an important hub for the Ukrainian army's logistics, connecting several fortresses in Donbass by road.
Russian troops are now within a few kilometers of the town, which is also home to a major mine of coke coal, a mineral essential for producing steel for military needs.
Russian drones strike buildings and power lines in kyiv
A Russian air attack on kyiv damaged buildings, roads and several power lines in the city, the capital's military administration said on Sunday, after the army said air defenses were trying to repel an attack by drones.
The attack, which took place in waves and approached the city from different directions, did not cause any injuries, said Serhi Popko, head of the kyiv military administration, on the application of Telegram messaging, reports Reuters.

This is the second consecutive night of Russian drone attacks on kyiv. According to initial information, all the devices were destroyed, added Serhi Popko. The number of drones launched on kyiv was not immediately specified.
Second Taiwanese fighter killed in Ukraine
A second Taiwanese volunteer fighting alongside Ukrainian soldiers against Russia was killed, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday.
The man was a member of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, the ministry said in a statement, expressing condolences to his family.
The ministry said it was informed of the man's death on Saturday and that Taiwan's representative office in Poland had verified the information with the Ukrainian Foreign Legion. No further details were released.
At the start of the invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky openly invited foreigners to come to his country to join a “foreign legion” who would fight alongside the Ukrainians against the Russians.
Taiwanese media reported that the soldier returned to Ukraine in July after recovering from a leg injury.
