Firefighters from the Trois-Pistoles Fire Safety Department and their colleagues from neighboring municipalities fought a fire which broke out at the back of the Trois-Pistoles Market (Metro grocery store), on the second floor of the Galeries de Trois-Pistoles, this Friday, November 1st.

When the firefighters arrived, shortly after 2:15 p.m., apparent smoke was escaping from the building on the east side (Richard Street). Part of the exterior covering also appeared to have been damaged from the inside by heat.

“Our priority was to finalize the evacuation of the shopping center which was already in progress,” said the director of the Trois-Pistoles Fire Safety Service, Raphaël Bastille. “Subsequently, a team was sent inside to get a better idea of the situation.”

Once the information was gathered, the firefighters attacked the fire, particularly at the roof level. They managed to quickly control the situation, thus limiting the spread of the flames to the room of origin, a place where the grocery store’s generators are located.

According to preliminary information, the premises were damaged by water and smoke which spread throughout the Galeries de Trois-Pistoles. Ventilation procedures have been initiated. “We also ensure that there is no carbon monoxide,” said Raphaël Bastille.

At the time of writing, the businesses were not accessible to the public. A call was also made to MAPAQ.

The Trois-Pistoles firefighters benefited from the mutual assistance of their colleagues from L’Isle-Verte, Saint-Jean-de-Dieu and Saint-Éloi. No one was injured or inconvenienced by the smoke.

At this time, the origin of the fire is not known.

Note that this is the second fire that broke out in a grocery store in the region this Friday. Earlier in the morning, the Épicerie du Coin in Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska was engulfed in flames.
