After a two-week break, the ASSE players are preparing to return to competition. Despite a successful start to the season with three victories, the Stéphanoises have stalled in the last two matches. Two consecutive defeats against Le Havre and Dijon, two opponents who seemed within their reach on paper. This Saturday at 9 p.m., traveling to Strasbourg, the Greens will try to get back on track.
Getting back on track after two consecutive defeats
The start of the ASSE season is difficult to interpret. Capable of beating high-level teams like Paris FC (1-0), the Stéphanoises also showed significant shortcomings against Le Havre (5-1). At home against Dijon, Laurent Mortel's team was unable to regain confidence. The coach was particularly annoyed at the end of this meeting, as his comments on the club's official website illustrate:
“I don't recognize my team. I just told them that I had a feeling of shame about what we were able to produce today. We only repeated individual errors, repeating mistakes techniques, without being able to make three passes in a row We had an interesting quarter of an hour at the start of the match where, with a little success, we could have led the score. But then, we collapsed. There are attitudes that bother me, we have been transparent. When it is a player who is transparent, we can still manage. But when several are, it becomes difficult.
Renewal in the ASSE squad?
Several players have left for the selection, such as Cindy Caputo with the France team or Amandine Pierre-Louis with Haiti. This change of scenery could do them good before returning to the group. Laurent Mortel also declared:
“I could have changed 80% of my team at half-time. We tried to readjust, but it didn't work.”
Against Strasbourg, changes in the starting lineup are expected. The coach could give more playing time to certain players who have been substitutes until now. However, the workforce remains limited. Each player therefore has the opportunity to show themselves when things are not going well.
Strasbourg, an opponent within reach of ASSE?
Penultimate in the championship, the Alsatians have still not won a single official match this season. Their last victory dates back to a preparation match, on September 13, against ASSE (2-1). This Saturday, the Greens will have to show a completely different face if they want to get back into the championship.
