A fire broke out in an apartment in the station area of ​​ early in the morning this Friday, November 1.

A major fire broke out in an apartment in Perpignan on the morning of November 1, 2024. It was 7:35 a.m. when the firefighters received the alert of an apartment fire located on rue Frédéric Vallet, in next to the -Barcelone hotel, in the station area.

A substantial system was immediately deployed towards this building made up of 24 housing units, spread over three levels. 32 firefighters, 2 urban vehicles, 1 ladder truck, 1 group leader, but also health resources to take care of potential victims were mobilized.

On site, firefighters had to intervene in a second floor apartment which was engulfed in flames. Firefighters carried out four rescues using the large ladder to rescue occupants directly threatened by the fire. In total, the health of 16 tenants was examined. No casualties have been reported. None of them had to be sent to an emergency hospital department.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire while preventing the building's structure from weakening. However, this Friday, 10 occupants must be relocated. Six apartments, located on the second level, were blackened by the flames and require extensive cleaning to remove all traces of potentially toxic soot.

The origin of the fire remains unclear at the end of this morning. The apartment where the fire broke out was occupied by a young woman who lived alone. According to initial information, the flames started from a dressing room, or a cupboard.
