In the Channel, it was around 3:40 p.m. on the afternoon of Sunday June 2, 2024 when two vehicles following each other collided. The cars were traveling at this time on the D 901 towards Saint-Pierre-Eglise, in the commune of Gonneville-Le Theil. For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver of the vehicle which was following the other car violently hit it from behind, at the Maupertus airport intersection. Under the violence of the impact, the vehicle victim of the rear-end collision crossed the left lane of the roadway to end up in the ditch, stopped by the embankment.

As for the vehicle which hit first, it ended up on the central reservation of the intersection. Dispatched to the site, nine firefighters from the Tourlaville and Cherbourg emergency centers took care of the two drivers and their respective passengers. The shock was violent but the people involved were only slightly injured. First aid was provided to them on the spot,”
