According to several media, Vinicius will not be the 2024 Ballon d'Or. Furious at this decision, his club, Real Madrid, has decided to boycott the ceremony which is being held in Paris, this Monday, October 28.
Small earthquake on the football planet. According to the latest rumors, Vinicius, the big favorite to receive the 2024 Ballon d'Or, would ultimately not be crowned. News which has, it seems, greatly annoyed Real Madrid: several media outlets, notably RMC Sport, Marca and the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, often very well informed, report that the Madrid club has canceled its visit to Paris, where the Ballon d'Or ceremony is being held this Monday evening.
Marca specifies that a delegation of 50 people should fly from Madrid's Valdebebas airport to the French capital. It won't happen. Troubling when we know that the defending champion of the Champions League has seven players nominated for the Ballon d'Or this year: Vinicius, Bellingham, Carvajal, Mbappé, Kroos, Rüdiger and Valverde.
“Each time, I want to play less”: asked about racism, Vinicius bursts into tears
Rodri, new favorite?
And that's not all. Carlo Ancelotti, the Madrid coach, is nominated in the category of best coach of the year; Andriy Lunin is named in the category of best goalkeeper (Yachine trophy); and Arda Güler in the best young person category (Kopa trophy).
If Vinicius was really ousted in this race for the Ballon d'Or, the reward could go to the Spaniard Rodri, Manchester City player and winner of the Euro this summer with his selection.
