The Stade Olympique Millavois (SOM) Rugby (Aveyron) is mobilizing to support the family of Loïc Keita, who tragically died in a road accident on October 26. The 21-year-old was traveling to Monaco to play a match with the reserve team when the tragedy occurred.
Faced with this loss, the Fédérale 2 club in Millau decided to join forces with an online prize pool launched on the Leetchi platform. This initiative aims to provide financial support to Loïc Keita's partner and their young child.
“In By contributing to this fund, we can all together provide valuable support to his family during this difficult time and honor the memory of an exceptional man. This fund aims to support Loïc's wife and baby, who left behind an immense void” explains SOM Rugby on its Facebook page.
The disappearance of Loïc Keita deeply affected the rugby community of Millau and also sparked controversy. Laurent Tabutin, president of SOM Rugby, pointed out the responsibility of the rugby authorities for having maintained the match in which Loïc Keita was to participate despite the dangerous weather conditions announced:
“As club president, I will never digest the fact of having endorsed a trip with the consequences that we know. But above all, I ask the higher authorities of French rugby to carefully assess, in the future, the issues before maintaining matches which remain, despite everything, a simple ball game.“

Loïc Keita leaves behind the memory of a passionate and dedicated young man. An Ivorian international, he had recently joined the Millau club after a journey which had taken him from Stade Français to Chartres, via Le Mans.
