The 27-year-old man murdered by a gunshot to the head Wednesday evening on a basketball court in the Lachine district of Montreal died in front of his brother, who tried to keep him awake while waiting for help.

This resounding murder was committed around 7:30 p.m. on Duff Court Street, under the eyes of numerous witnesses, including several who would have recognized the killer.

The suspect, who is only 18 years old, is actively sought by the police, according to our information.

“He is someone who has been well known in the area since he was 12,” revealed a police Source.

Still according to our information, the murder victim is De-Shong Keziah Paul, a young man who was not known to police circles.

The latter was with other individuals on the neighborhood basketball court when the suspect got out of a car and then approached the group, before opening fire a few times.

De-Shong Keziah Paul was reportedly shot at least once in the head. He did not survive his injuries.

His brother witnessed the entire scene and allegedly tried to keep the victim awake while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly after at the hospital.

The suspect fled and had still not been arrested as of late Thursday morning. The motive for the murder has still not been established.

It was the 17th murder to be committed in Montreal since the start of the year and the eighth in the last two and a half weeks.

Outbreak of violence in recent days in Montreal

May 12 (Plateau Mont-Royal) : The body of Vincent Olaechaea-Bibeau, a 33-year-old homeless man, is found in an alley in Plateau Mont-Royal. He was allegedly beaten to death. A dozen hours after the murder, police handcuffed 22-year-old Jayden Coon-Come. The latter appeared on a charge of premeditated murder.

May 14 (Ahuntsic-Cartierville) : Rapper Christopher Shawn Jean Vilsaint, aka “Dirty S”, is shot in the head near a recording studio. The 27-year-old man was linked to street gangs. Her murderer has still not been arrested.

May 18 (South-West) : Patrick Conor O’Loughlin, an ordinary 27-year-old young man, is stabbed to death in an apartment building during a trivial dispute between neighbors over loud music in the early hours of the morning. Jayden and Chad Pinel, two brothers aged 18 and 20, were arrested and later charged with murder.

May 18 (Michael) : Brahim Naili, 71, presented himself at the end of the afternoon at a local SPVM station, where he told the police that he had just killed his ex-partner. The police went to the 55-year-old woman’s home and discovered her lifeless body. Naima Rezzek was stabbed to death. Her ex-partner has since been charged with premeditated murder.

May 21 (Plateau Mont-Royal) : A fight breaks out in an alley between two groups of individuals. Three young men were stabbed during the confrontation and all died from their injuries. The victims are Ahmed Oualil, 15 years old, Alexandre Vatamanu, 23 years old, and Ulrick Peterson Célestin, 25 years old.

May 30 (Lachine) : A man opens fire on a basketball court, fatally hitting 27-year-old De-Shong Keziah Paul. The 18-year-old suspect fled and police are still looking for him.
