It is not insignificant if Thomas Scheffer chose to join Weywertz in P2C, he explains what determined his choice. “I wanted to find a great atmosphere in football and German-speaking clubs are renowned for that, there is not that elsewhere. It didn’t go very well at Aubel in terms of my playing time and I wanted to have a good season again and play at the top in P2.”
“85% chance this will be my last year”
“I wanted to stop last season to avoid injuries. This year I’m going to say there’s an 85% chance it’s the last. Afterwards, a lot of players say that and put on their crampons again, but I think it will be the last.” Declares the attacker.
Arriving with the desire to play at the top of the ranking, this is not yet the case for Thomas Scheffer and Weywertz who experienced a complicated period: before their victory against Amblève, Steve Paquay’s men had only earned one point out of 12. “Our goal is to play at the top, try to grab the final round, which we’re not doing too much at the moment. We had to win at Amblève, given how certain players fought against them and that they didn’t do it in the previous weeks, it’s clear that things changed in terms of mentality. I think we’re going to get back on track and things will go well,” says Thomas Scheffer.
A six-point match
To be able to continue this rise in the rankings, Weywertz will have to be on the road this Sunday, against the leader Welkenraedt. As a reminder, Weywertz won with a score of 4-1 against them during the second day of the championship. However, according to Thomas Scheffer, it will not be that easy. “I think they found their rhythm well. When we played against them, it was at the start of the season and they were getting into shape. For me, it will perhaps be the same players, but it will not be the same team as in the first leg. It’s a very good team with players who have also experienced P1.”
He goes on to explain the importance of going for this victory. “Winning against them is a great opportunity for us to get back into the league. It can be said to be a six-point game. If we lose, they will be 12 points ahead of us and that will be really complicated.”
