A day without end. The municipality of Guiscard and its hamlet of Buchoire in particular were flooded again yesterday Wednesday May 29. After the spills last Friday, and the long clean-up that followed, everything has to be redone. “This time, we had 30 mm of water, it also fell on the Grandru and Mondescourt sectors,” explains the mayor of Guiscard Thibault Delavenne.

Yesterday, seeing the heavy rainfall which fell again on the sector, initiatives were attempted. “We made barriers to prevent it from entering certain houses, but that has limits.” Before the storm, the commune had, however, after having received authorization from the prefecture, curated the Ru des Brulé which had overflowed this weekend. “But it wasn’t enough,” laments Thibault Delavenne. Around ten houses were affected. Most of those already flooded at the end of last week are flooded again.

This time, the Verse de Beaugies, downstream of the river “was full”, he confides. As a result, the Buchoire pond fed by the small stream “overflowed again due to lack of being able to evacuate downstream”. And this morning, we have to remove the mud again, laments the chosen one.

In the event of another storm “we’re screwed”

With this new disaster, while the town hall had only just made its request for classification as a natural disaster, the mayor believes that additional measures are necessary. “We need to clean out the Verse in depth, a real program to prevent runoff and flooding needs to be done.” This is what the mayor said to the sub-prefect of the district visiting the field this Thursday morning. MP Michel Guiniot also visited the site.

For the inhabitants of Guiscard and the hamlet, the time remains for fear while the sector is still placed on yellow alert for storms by Météo France. “If it falls again, we’re screwed,” says Thibault Delavenne.
