Nadia Essiambre will be marked for life by the events of November 1, 2022.

The woman told Wednesday at the trial for premeditated murder of Dominic and Cédric Larocque that she had long had “flashes” of the drama.

“At first, I had flashes all the time. I saw the father do the same [en mimant un coup]I saw Manuel’s eyes, the face of Manuel who had died,” Ms. Essiambre told the jury.

Overwhelmed by emotion, she remembered the attack, but especially the aftermath. That moment when, almost unable to raise her head after being hit several times, she saw her partner, inert on the ground.

“I crawled over to him and he was dead. […] I stroked his hair, I talked to him, I didn’t want him to die alone,” the woman recalled.

Blows to the head

The latter recounted the attack to the members of the jury, explaining that a conflict had arisen between her partner and her, then the father-son duo earlier in the day.

The altercation would have occurred due to the “morbid jealousy” of Manuel Paradis, who had paranoid behavior linked to his drug consumption admitted Ms. Essiambre.

Later in the evening, Dominic and Cédric Larocque allegedly showed up at the apartment and forced the door while Manuel Paradis tried to close it.

“I got up to go help Manuel, but when I got to the wardrobe, I hit my head and fell on my back,” said the woman, specifying that it was Cédric Larocque who was holding her back and who allegedly hit her a few times with an object “that looked like a big flashlight.”

The woman also had to receive several stitches at the hospital in order to close her various head wounds.

She then claimed to have seen “the father”, Dominic Larocque, hit the victim in the head with a baseball bat.

Another witness heard earlier, however, had mentioned that it was the son, Cédric Larocque, whom he had seen armed with the baseball bat hitting Manuel Paradis.

The victim’s body was found in a “lamentable” state in the apartment of the rooming house on Chemin Ste-Foy.

Consumer issues

Nadia Essiambre also recognized that Manuel Paradis could behave violently, especially when his paranoia was exacerbated.

“His condition had deteriorated, he consumed a lot more,” admitted the victim’s partner.

The woman explained that Paradis consumed a lot of alcohol, cannabis, cocaine and speeds each day. He also occasionally smoked freebase. “He really hasn’t been doing well lately. He took too many drugs,” said Ms. Essiambre.
