Kevin Labarre, sentenced to 18 years of criminal imprisonment by the Assize Court for the murder of Jean Tollet, committed in Mouscron in December 2012, was summoned to appear Tuesday before the criminal court in Mons. He must answer for possession of narcotics.

On December 10, 2021, the director of Mons prison ordered a search of cell 1304 that Kevin Labarre shares with other inmates. On him, the guards found a cellophane wrapper containing fifteen grams of cannabis and heroin. Twelve bags containing brown powder were found in the cell.

Co-inmate

When questioned, Kevin declares that he is holding this drug for a fellow inmate, whose identity he does not wish to give for fear of reprisals, and that it therefore does not belong to him. Furthermore, he was not aware that this package contained drugs. He repeated this during his hearing, assisted by a lawyer, in the prison director’s office.

Finally, the fellow prisoner was able to be identified thanks to an internal investigation carried out within the prison. “Everyone knew that this fellow inmate was trafficking, which was not the case for my client.”, explains Me Gauthier Gossieaux.

The latter explains that the fellow inmate in question was in a way the boss in the courtyard and that he was feared by the others.

Analysis of the cell phones found in the cell revealed that Kevin Labarre was mainly calling his loved ones, while his fellow inmate was engaged in drug trafficking. The latter was transferred to solitary confinement in another prison.

He tries to rebuild his life

Me Gossieaux pleaded for a work sentence for Kevin Labarre, who has since been released from prison. “He is trying to get his life back together after his long detention”concludes the lawyer.

In December 2012, Kevin Labarre and Julien Baize went on scooter to Mouscron after drinking vodka and smoking cannabis under a bridge near the Auchan hypermarket in Roncq. The two Northerners wanted to go to one of their acquaintances on rue du Dragon in Mouscron. But their friend had moved in the meantime.

They found themselves in front of Jean Tollet who asked them to leave. Jean was severely beaten because the tone he had used did not please the two young people who literally unleashed themselves on him, hitting him on the head with a helmet, punching him, kicking him, knee strikes, stab wounds, giving him no chance of escape.
