It’s time for predictions, a little over two weeks before the start of Euro 2024. According to Marc Degryse, a quarter-final would already be a good result for Belgium.

What can we expect from the new generation of Devils in their first major tournament? Former international Marc Degryse tried to answer this question in the podcast Het Laatste Nieuws.

“We have a team that can surprise any major country, from a closed defense and in transition. But this Belgium no longer has the reputation of being the country with players like Courtois, Kompany, Vermaelen, Hazard,. ..”

“For many young players, this will be the first major tournament, in which there is always a lot of pressure. So how can we expect them to do better than the so-called golden generation?”

A quarter-final, a good result for the Devils at Euro 2024?

For Belgium, passing the pools will be the bare minimum after the dismal failure of the 2022 World Cup. Belgian supporters should not think too big yet… for the moment.

“In the last five tournaments, we have only reached the quarter-finals once, with the semi-final in Russia. If you manage to reach the quarter-finals in Germany, you will have already made it through your tournament.” believes Degryse, for whom Belgium could surprise if it climbs into the last eight teams of the tournament.
