If there is one club that will be active this summer during the transfer market, it is PSG. The capital club wants to recruit across all lines. The goalkeeper position will therefore not be forgotten.

PSG will have to fill a lot of departures this summer during the transfer window. In addition to Kylian Mbappé, Keylor Navas, Alexandre Letellier, Sergio Rico, Nordi Mukiele and Carlos Soler will leave the ship. Luis Enrique does not want to leave anything to chance and intends to recruit for all positions. Among the goalkeepers, quite a few changes will therefore take place. If he does not want to leave PSG, Arnau Tenas nevertheless wants to gain playing time.

The Spaniard therefore requested a loan. Given this situation, the French champions are looking into his replacement. And barring any twists and turns, the latter will be Matvej Safonov, Krasnodar goalkeeper. To afford the Russian international, Paris would even have to pay 20 million euros. A track which surprises quite a few observers and it is not Romain Beddouk who would say the opposite.

Safonov, the surprising recruit

During a column for France Blue Paristhe journalist tried to do an analysis on Safonov… almost in vain: “ So I’m not going to try to invent any expertise for you: I’ve never seen him play. All Russian clubs have been excluded from European competitions since the start of the invasion in Ukraine. But I still studied the subject a little and I am able to give you some characteristics of Matvej Safonov. We are already talking about a 26-year-old player, who has everything to be the starting goalkeeper for the Russian team. He is strong on his line and not too much in his kicking game… It reminds us of a certain Donnarumma… That’s why I wonder, obviously the profile is validated by Luis Enrique but when we know the importance that he gives to the game at the foot there is reason to ask questions. So apparently he would be quite efficient in aerial sorties, where Donnarumma is not reassuring at all so perhaps in this aspect there will be a progression”. PSG has had problems with its goalkeepers for a long time. Keylor Navas provided satisfaction before Gianluigi Donnarumma was recruited. Since then, the Italian has not been able to achieve complete unanimous support. His kicking game and his aerial outputs leave something to be desired.
