Alizé Cornet officially ends her career.

Beaten by 8e world player, Qinwen Zheng, in the first round of Roland‐Garros this Tuesday (6−2, 6–1), the Frenchwoman played the last match of her career, at 34, for her 69e consecutive participation in Grand Slam (a record for women).

After his defeat, the tournament offered the traditional trophy to Alizé during a ceremony organized in his honor, in the presence of the president of the Federation, Gilles Moretton, and the director, Amélie Mauresmo.

Moved and smiling, the champion delivered a magnificent speech.

“I was already crying watching Nadal’s match yesterday… Rebelote today. I’ve been preparing for this moment for weeks but I think we’re never ready when the time comes to say goodbye. It’s quite a page in my book that is being turned, a page of 30 years since I started tennis at 4 years old. I’m going to have to start a new chapter. I was incredibly lucky. Emotion overwhelms me because I see how far I have come. I’m super proud of myself, I would have liked to do more, like today, but I gave everything to my sport. »

Respect, Alizé.
