Author of a double during Al-Nassr’s victory against Al-Ittihad (4-2), Cristiano Ronaldo broke the record for goals in a season in the Saudi championship (35).

The Saudi championship ended Monday evening, with the 34th and final day. Already assured of finishing second behind Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr won 4-2 against Al-Ittihad and N’Golo Kanté. Cristiano Ronaldo, who, like Kanté, will participate in Euro 2024 in Germany, opened the scoring, from the left, in added time of the first period, before doubling the lead with a header from a corner in the 69th minute of game. A double which allows the Portuguese to set a new record. Because he finished with 35 goals on the clock, in 31 matches, and thus broke the record for goals scored during a season in the Saudi championship. A record which belonged since the 2018-2019 financial year to Moroccan international striker Abderrazak Hamdallah, author of 34 goals, already with Al-Nassr. “CR7”, who also delivered 11 assists, once again proved that he was far from finished.

Many records

“I don’t follow the records, they follow me”, Ronaldo then wrote on X (formerly Twitter), with the unshakeable self-confidence that characterizes him. And there is something to be said for having set a new record. He notably holds the title for the greatest number of goals scored in his career, but also the title of top scorer in the history of the selections and the Champions League. And last December he became the first outfield player in history to play 1,200 professional matches. He is today the first player to have finished top scorer in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and therefore in the Saudi championship. In England, it was with Manchester United in 2007-2008, while he was three times in Spain in the Real Madrid jersey (2010-2011, 2013-2014, 2014-2015) and once in Italy with Juventus (2020-2021).
