the essential
The fusion group Skill Crew returns to Vic-Fezensac on June 22 for a concert full of intact energy.

Pongo Booking are pleased to announce the next Skill Crew concert. See you on June 22 at 7 p.m., in Vic-Fezensac, as part of Label day, organized by the Label de Nuit association. For these four Toulouse residents, fusion is not dead, far from it! Mixing loud and clear a hip-hop/rub-a-dub chat with an energetic grunge sound supported by samples, Skill Crew already has two self-produced EPs to its credit: Ambiance Barbecue in 2018 and Carnaval ‘ in 2020.

In the 1990s, while the battle between rap and rock fans raged, a new musical style emerged, which everyone agreed on: Fusion. Among its main ambassadors, legendary groups such as Beastie Boys, UrbanDance Squad and Rage Against the Machine.

Birth of a group

Almost two decades later, in 2016 to be precise, a group of friends talk about their musical roots around a Toulouse counter. It must be said that they themselves have officiated or still officiate in groups that have left their mark on the French scene; such as Simili Martien, Underzüt or Spook and the Guay. Eager to breathe new life into Fusion, they decided to write a few songs together: Skill Crew was born.

And Skill Crew was, Skill Crew self-produced and released two EPs, “Ambiance Barbecue” (2018) and “Carnaval” (2020), containing punchy and catchy tracks, carried by Nico’s dazzling flow. At that time, they played in a five-member format, with the support of a DJ.

Great comeback

The group is already making itself heard. Unfortunately COVID and confinement are happening, leading to some line-up upheavals. But far from being defeated, on the contrary, Skill Crew is reinventing itself while keeping its energy, its rage and its desire for the stage. 2022: Skill Crew returns. Thus, 2022 sees the arrival of the new version of Skill Crew. From now on, it’s Ben who controls the samplers from his drums, Yann remains faithful to the guitar and Nico still officiates on the microphone. In addition, they see Julien arriving as reinforcement on bass, Nico’s traveling companion during the Spooks & the Guay era. Thus, a new four-musician Skill Crew is born. Without abandoning electronic sounds, he gives us music with a more organic, direct and relatable energy. The group returns to the stage with more than ever the desire to make the audience dance, shake and sweat. You’ll love Skill Crew live!
