Around sixty firefighters intervened Friday evening in an apartment building located at 1991, avenue Bardy, in Limoilou, due to a fire of potentially criminal origin.

The firefighters were notified around 6:45 p.m. by several witnesses.

The fire started in a home located on the 10th floor of Résidences Saint-Pascal, an HLM with around a hundred apartments.

According to firefighters, most of the building was evacuated while the fire was brought under control. Around 8:45 p.m., the fire department did not expect any risk of aggravation.

Several residents will not be able to return to their homes due to smoke emanations.

Three people were inconvenienced by these, but there is no fear for their lives.

Another person felt unwell, but is also out of danger.

Deadlines and causes

According to the Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ), several residents did not immediately exit the building when they heard the initial fire alarm, which may have complicated the firefighters’ work.

THE SPCIQ reminds that you must always evacuate the premises when a fire alarm system is triggered, even if a fire is not visible.

An investigation has been opened. Fire Commissioner investigators have reasonable and probable grounds to believe that there was voluntary human interventionmentions Alexandre Lajoie, spokesperson for the SPCIQ.
