The second edition of Animal Day was held on Place des Épars, this Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Chartres. Numerous activities were offered to educate and raise awareness about animal welfare.

After a first edition in 2023, the City of Chartres once again organized Animal Day, this Saturday, May 25, on the Place des Épars. The event was held in the presence of many curious people and many dogs in particular.

“After the success of 2023, we wanted to give a greater dimension to this new edition, with around forty stands, activities and new partners,” confides Sophie Beurel, municipal councilor responsible for animals in the city.

The City of Chartres intends, in 2024, to “continue its commitment to animals”

“The objective of the day remains, through this fun and festive event, to raise public awareness in an educational way about the place occupied by animals in the city.”

Guide to animals in the city

The City of Chartres took advantage of this meeting to highlight various measures “in favor of animal welfare and good cohabitation between pet owners and all citizens”.

After the creation of a first canine freedom space on Rue des Petites-Filles-Dieu, where dogs can freely enjoy walking and swimming, a second is due to open at the start of 2025, in a wooded area of the city. Thirteen “hotels” for stray cats, located throughout the city, provide shelter, food and water, and are managed by the SPA and volunteers. They also make it possible to identify unsterilized animals.

Finally, the municipality has published The Animal Guide to the City, which is aimed at all residents. It includes practical advice as well as useful contacts.
