the prices of gasoline and diesel in free fall. Will the downward trend continue?

Fuel prices have seen a sharp decline in recent days. While the price of gasoline is moving further and further away from 2 euros, that of diesel has recorded its fifth decline in a row. This downward trend, which is good news, will it last over time, motorists wonder, however.

Every time, “It’s a little relief that seems to last, that’s good! “, Sylvie told us during her last morning trip to a service station in the town of Auvers-sur-Oise. She had just filled up with diesel for less than 1.70 euros per liter. It must be said that the evolution of fuel prices is causing much rejoicing among motorists.

The average prices, relayed by combustibles.org, showed, this Saturday, May 25, 1.716 euros per liter of diesel, a decrease of 0.062 euros, representing a decline of 3.49%. The SP98, sold this morning at an average price of 1.944 euros, recorded, for its part, a drop of 0.060 euros, synonymous with a 2.99% discount over the last 30 days. The SP95, currently at 1.874 euros, also fell by 0.063 euros, a depreciation of 3.25% over the month.

The drop is even greater in the price of E10, now displayed at 1.852 euros per liter. Over the last 30 days, it has decreased by 0.070 euros, or a drop of 3.64%, notes the specialist. E85, currently sold at an average price of 0.896 euros per liter, has also lost, over the last 30 days, 0.006 euros, a drop of 0.67%. Finally, the price of LPG, displayed this morning at 0.993 euros, shows a drop which reaches 0.010 euros, or 1.00% compared to a month ago.

In fact, the price drop dates back to the end of April. The decline is observed for the fifth week in a row. Diesel fell squarely below the 1.70 euro mark yesterday at the Intermarché station in Mery-sur-Oise, where a liter is sold at 1.689 euros. At the same station, the E10 was displayed at 1.809 euros per liter, the E85 at 0.885 euros and the SP98 at 1.919 euros.

Positive consequence of the drop in the price of Brent

As for the falling gasoline prices, this has also lasted for four weeks, to the great delight of users. This downward trend is the positive consequence of the fall observed in oil prices, currently at $82.09 per barrel of Brent. Oil prices are indeed falling due to several factors. However, gloom is gripping the global economy, which suggests that prices will remain within this range.

Thus, the downward trend in fuels in France will have to continue at least for a few days, barring a geopolitical event in the Middle East region which has been attracting attention lately.
