Walks, initiations, activities… This Saturday, May 25, on the eve of the Vélotour, TAO Orléans Métropole is organizing a “bike day”, Place du Martroi in Orléans.

Everyone in the saddle! The little queen is the queen of the party, this Saturday, May 25, Place du Martroi in Orléans. As part of the national event “May by bike”, TAO Orléans Métropole is organizing its “bike day”, which puts the spotlight on bicycles, but also electric bikes and scooters. Objective: to make people want to cycle and favor gentle mobility.

The stand which is always full is undoubtedly that of the 1-Terre-Actions association which sells used bicycles refurbished by its employees and volunteers. Its members also service your two-wheelers and give you advice on checking the mandatory equipment on your machine, knowing how to repair a puncture, maintaining your brakes, etc.

Among the other stands particularly arousing public interest, that of the Orléans town hall which provides practical information concerning the passage of the Tour de France, on July 8 and 9, 2024.

Introduction to BMX, museum of old bikes, walks…

Or that of road safety, supervised by Stéphane Neri, road safety coordinator at the Loiret prefecture. He and two volunteers offer visitors quizzes to encourage them to reduce risks when riding a bicycle, electric bike or scooter. “We particularly emphasize visibility and we give them a yellow warning harness,” he explains.

Many other activities are to be discovered, such as the introduction to BMX by the Bi-club Chaplois; the Marco museum which shows the evolution of the bicycle over time thanks to around ten vehicles, including the pedal velocipede dating from 1869; a machine decoration workshop using branches, moss, pine cones, bark, etc., supervised by visual artists Chantal Detry and Estrella Silvestro (ideal in preparation for the Vélotour).

Finally, various bike rides are offered. This afternoon, they will take you to the Loire Park, to the Donjon area in Olivet or in the footsteps of the Tour de France. All the activities can be found in detail on the Orléans Métropole website.

Place du Martroi, it is also possible to register for the Vélotour, scheduled for this Sunday, May 26 (be careful, it’s almost full). Departure from 8 a.m. to noon, Parc des Armenaults, in Saint-Jean-de-Braye, for a main loop of 16 kilometers.
