On the eve of the Coupe de France final against PSG (9 p.m.), Alexandre Lacazette returned to the tasty anecdote shared by Corentin Tolisso, according to which the Lyon captain was not aware of qualification for the Europa League after the victory against Strasbourg on the last day of Ligue 1 (2-1).

The crazy evening experienced by the Lyonnais on the last day of Ligue 1 is still in everyone’s minds. Winner of Strasbourg at the last minute thanks to a penalty from Alexandre Lacazette, OL validated their ticket for the group stage of the Europa League, just six months after having vegetated at the bottom of the ranking. A qualification that the Lyon captain did not achieve straight away, as his teammate Corentin Tolisso revealed during the week.

“Before he took his penalty, he didn’t know that Montpellier was drawing,” the Lyon midfielder explained. “It was only Max (Caqueret) who knew because the Virage Sud supporters had told him. But afterwards, I don’t know if the others knew. But Alex (Lacazette), even after the fireworks, still didn’t know that we were 6th. He still hadn’t seen the result from Lens. I learned in the locker room and that’s where it was even crazier. I had more emotions than when I was able to win a title with Bayern.

“I was focused on my penalty”

A tasty anecdote that the Rhone striker confirmed with a smile. “It’s true. Duje (Caleta-Car) had said it to me on the pitch, but I was focused on my penalty. I didn’t remember what he had said. For me, it was above all the celebration of the fact that we were last in December and that we had done so well. After the fireworks, we went back to the locker room and when we were talking we were talking about 6th place. I didn’t understand. too why they were talking about that, they showed me, and it’s quite funny,” breathed the Lyon captain at a press conference on the eve of the Coupe de France final against PSG.

Author of 19 goals this season in Ligue 1, Alexandre Lacazette was the main gunner of his team, which scored 49 times in the league. The 33-year-old’s performances notably enabled his team to achieve an incredible year in 2024 to formalize their return to the European Cup three years after their last participation.
