The case returns to the criminal court. On March 28, Tony Leclercq, 43, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted assassination of Dominique Villain, former delegate of the Premieres of RFC Tournai. The latter was attacked on January 26, 2022, in Blandain. He had been the victim of several gunshots. Premeditation was accepted, especially since a first attempt had failed.

The court also ruled that Tony Leclercq had not acted alone. His partner, who was once in a relationship with the victim, was considered to be the instigator of the attempted murder. She received an 18-year prison sentence. Tony’s friend who provided him with advice and ammunition, meanwhile, got 10 years. These two sentences were pronounced in absentia, the two individuals being absent at the hearing.

They didn’t know?

The alleged “co-perpetrators” of the facts appealed the court’s decision. They both deny having been made aware of Tony Leclercq’s project. His friend went to the hearing and explained that he did not imagine for a single moment that Tony Leclercq was serious when he expressed “I’m going to smash it”. “The ammunition had been in a jar at my house for twenty years and could be used with my garden rifle which was used to keep small rodents away. I don’t remember when I gave it to Tony or his father, but I wouldn’t have had any reason to refuse.”, naively puts forward the defendant who claims to have only learned of the attempted murder through the media.

His lawyer also indicated that the “advice” given was not advice, but rather constituted arguments to discourage. “My client, to calm Mr. Leclercq, repeated to him that he could not kill anyone with this type of rifle, unless he knew how to precisely aim at the ear. He did not advise her to aim for the ear, but rather indicated to her that it was a bad idea”, explained the lawyer.

As for the one who was designated as the sponsor, she is again not present in court but is this time represented by her lawyer. This depicted a relationship that was still very friendly, even romantic, between Madame and the victim. “They sent each other messages, but Madame could not respond in the presence of Mr. Leclercq who was very jealous. She never set an appointment to allow Mr. Leclercq to shoot Mr. Vilain. The day before she explains to Mr. Vilain by message that she cannot answer him and that she will come to his house the next day. The same morning, at 9 o’clock, she replied that she would try to come by in the morning. Nothing is fixed well in advance as we describe it to you”, underlines the council.

Denounced out of revenge?

For the lawyers, we must take into account the first hearing of Tony Leclercq which involves no one other than him. “If in his fifth hearing he talks about Madame and Monsieur, it is because he learned that they were having an affair and that he wanted revenge.”, noted the lawyers. The king’s prosecutor has another reading: “Mr. Leclercq initially wanted to protect them because he committed the acts out of love. He later denounced his accomplices because Madame was not faithful to him.

Acquittal for both defendants is requested by the defense. The public prosecutor and the civil party requested that the judgment be confirmed. The president of the court will reanalyze the case in the light of these new pleadings and deliver his judgment on June 27.
