Death of Louis Patey, veteran of the Algerian War, near Lisieux

A farmer by profession, Louis Patey had participated in the Algerian War, which took place from 1954 to 1962. He died on Wednesday May 22, 2024. He had been treasurer of the association of veterans of Saint-Germain- de-Livet (Calvados) and still had the flag bearer badge. He will be buried after a ceremony at the church of Saint-Pierre-des-Ifs, on Tuesday May 28, 2024.

Louis Patey, veteran of the Algerian War, died this Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the age of 88. Former treasurer and standard bearer of the veterans’ association in Saint-Germain-de-Livet, he had to put aside his associative activities due to his state of health.

“His health no longer allowed him to carry the flag, even if he still had the badge. We had him replaced” reports the president of the Saint-Germain-de-Livet veterans association, Jean-Claude Letourneur.

After the war, return to the land

The Algerian War lasted from 1954 to 1962. Louis Patey had participated in the war but was not a soldier. He resumed his farming activities once he returned to his region.

A mass in memory of Louis Patey will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 2:30 p.m., at the church of Saint-Pierre-des-Ifs.
