French motorists will see BP stations disappear in favor of those of Esso, good news for their wallets with more advantageous prices at the pump.

BP stations give way to Esso

BP stations, recognizable by their green and white signs, are gradually disappearing in France. The end of the contract between BP and Euro Garages (EG Group) is the main cause. Consequently, 254 BP stations will come under the ownership of Esso, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil. Selim Maraslioglu, France director of EG Group, explains this to Parisian : “ We launched a call for tenders and reached an agreement with Esso. » Consumers will therefore see the color of the stations change, going from BP’s green and white to Esso’s blue and red. This change is not limited to the appearance of the stations. Motorists will also notice a drop in prices at the pump. BP stations were among the most expensive in France and therefore not very popular with French motorists. Selim Maraslioglu promises: “ We will be on the prices of our competitors like Total Access and supermarkets. » This strategy aims to make the stations more attractive and increase the volume of sales. This is good news for motorists to save a few cents on a full tank!

A big change coming

Even though most BP stations will be converted to Esso, some will be permanently closed. This decision is mainly due to a “brand conflict” when two Esso stations are too close to each other. Selim Maraslioglu specifies that this will only concern three or four stations. In Provence, for example, no closures are planned at this time.

With this transition, Esso hopes to expand its market share in France to around 8% with 800 stations. This repositioning also includes a makeover of the stations to meet Esso standards and offer services different from those offered by BP. In addition, the Esso brand, already present in certain Casino stations, is thus strengthening its presence in the region.
