Step by step. Laura Aina Rasoanaivo Razafy continues her quest for Olympic qualification. After winning the bronze medal at the African Championships in Egypt at the end of April, the judoka from the Saint-Michel club, in the 70 kg category, competed yesterday at the Senior World Championships in Abu Dhabi. She lost from the start to the Dane Laerke Olsen, aged 25, by Ippon at 1’23 of the fight. The latter is ranked 40th in the world and took 7th place at last year’s Paris Grand Slam, her recent best performance.

The World Summit is one of the major qualifying circuits for the Olympic Games. Each judoka entered earns 20 points with a simple participation, even if they are eliminated in the first round. Laura now has 1,447 points. A fight won at the World Championships is worth 200 points. She earned 350 points by taking third place at the African Championships.

In the Olympic qualification ranking, Laura is in 37th place in the world, second in her category in Africa behind the Angolan Niangi Maria, leader of the continent and 35th in the world ranking. The qualification deadline for the Paris Olympics for judo is June 24. There will be two more continental competitions before this date. Laura is entered in the Abidjan Open in Ivory Coast on June 8 and 9 but is not included in the list of entries in the Marrakech Open, June 1 and 2. The objective for Laura is to enter the top 12 in all categories to validate her Olympic ticket.
