A new clash between a cyclist and a motorist occurred, at the start of the day this Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in the Landing roundabout in Caen (Calvados), at the gates of Saint-Contest, where the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry is located. Results: a 32-year-old man slightly injured. Taken care of by firefighters, he was transferred to Saint-Martin hospital.

In this roundabout, cyclists in both directions

Since the beginning of May and after four months of work, the Débarquement roundabout has been completely reconfigured. It has transformed into a Dutch-style roundabout. Understand: cycle paths have been set up all around the roundabout, separated from the rest of the road by a strip of land, and above all, two-wheelers can ride in both directions.

Caution is therefore advised, particularly for motorists unfamiliar with this type of configuration. In this roundabout, cyclists come from both the right and the left.

A change of habit

At the end of May, the signage on the ground is absent. The technical services of Caen la mer are waiting for a clearing in the Normandy sky to achieve this.
Since the beginning of spring, several collisions between cars and bicycles have occurred. This Wednesday is the first resulting in hospitalization. Motorists on this roundabout will have to get used to seeing bicycles coming from the right, especially since they have to give them priority.
