The atmosphere was not festive for the staff of the Sacré-coeur nursing home.

Established in 2004 by the government of Jean-Pierre Raffarin, at the request of President Jacques Chirac, the solidarity day aims to finance actions in favor of the autonomy of elderly people or people with disabilities. The opportunity for accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) to open their doors to the public and families, while involving residents of the establishments and staff in various festivities.

But on this Monday morning, there was plenty of grimacing in front of the Sacré-Coeur nursing home which chose to cancel the planned activities due to a strike by its staff.

From 9 a.m., around thirty people were installed in front of the establishment, supported by the CGT USD Vaucluse. “We have been sounding the alarm for two years and trying to negotiate with management. We are not listened to despite the fact that our demands go as much in the direction of residents as of staff“, explains Chloé Le Pol, hotel service agent. Increased staff, higher salaries and better consideration are some of their main demands. “The lack of personnel exhausts the teams. There must be one nursing assistant for every eleven residents and two nurses for every ninety when the staff is at full strength, which is rarely the case.“, she regrets. The strikers also denounce a “toxic” management problem. If the management did not wish to communicate, the signs posted in response this morning (such as “make love, not strike”) were far from relaxing the atmosphere.
