She recounts her attack in Rennes on social networks: what we know

His testimony was shared more than 6,000 times in the space of a few hours. On Facebook, Ilona, a 22-year-old young woman from Combourg, between Rennes and Saint-Malo, threw a bottle into the sea on the night of May 20 to 21: “I’m looking for witnesses, because I was attacked by two men in their twenties in the Burger King parking lot in Saint-Grégoire, Sunday May 19, 2024, around 10:30 p.m. […]. One of the boys wore a blue motorcycle cap. Both boys were typical. For a cigarette refused. I had some stuff stolen [personnelles] and hitting him in the face and back. I am looking for people who were able to see the attack from afar in order to help me with my complaint”…

Hate comments

Immediately, the social network went wild. Thousands of shares and hundreds of comments were posted on the different accounts that relayed the post. Internet users criticize in turn: “growing insecurity”, “rising violence”, “uncontrolled immigration”, or even the “racism” of the complainant…

Faced with the social repercussions, Tuesday May 21, Philippe Astruc, the Rennes prosecutor, opened an investigation. He explains: “The police station was not informed this weekend of these facts (no call, Editor’s note) and no complaint was filed. On the basis of the call for witnesses launched by the victim, the prosecution opened an investigation under the qualification of violence with ITT – 8 J in a meeting. »

First reflex: file a complaint

Questioned via Facebook messaging about her failure to file a complaint, the young woman did not wish to respond. However, she explained to Télégramme: “When I see the hatred I have for myself, I think that the best thing for me is for things to settle down. I was looking for witnesses and I received hatred more than answers. »

At the police station, the police must now carry out an investigation without a complainant… “Why didn’t anyone call us that evening?” asks a police officer. Why didn’t she file a complaint? This is the first reflex to have. It’s a very curious way of doing things. We are going to seize images from the fast-food surveillance cameras to try to get a clearer picture of this matter. »
