The observation is clear, in the Var the retail prices are higher than in the vast majority of metropolitan territory.

This information comes from a national study of the NielsenIQ institute on mass distribution revealed by Le Parisien.

In the race for high prices in mass distribution, the Var competes with: Yvelines, Rhône, Haute-Savoie, Alpes-Maritimes and Bouches-du-Rhône.

In these departments, the price difference for products sold in mass distribution is between 5 and 10% higher than the national average.

The application of prices influenced by purchasing power

Prices in the Var, however, still remain lower than those that can be found in Parisin Hauts-de-Seine in Seine-et-Marne or even in the Alpes-Maritimes where prices rise to more than 10% of the national average.

The application of these rates is influenced by the purchasing power. Philippe Goetzmann, the mass distribution expert, explains to Parisian that: “Brands adapt to their audience”. In departments where consumers have a better income, distribution brands do not seek to increase competition. On the contrary, they end up aligning themselves by offering “high-end” products.
