The fall of a tree in the north of Paris (19th arrondissement), hit by heavy rains on Thursday, left one dead and two injured, AFP learned from a police source.
In the 19th arrondissement of Paris, a tragedy occurred Thursday evening, when a tree, weakened by severe weather, fell onto the road, causing the death of a man and injuring two children. The tragedy unfolded as intense rain fell on the capital, in full weather alert.
The circumstances of the accident
The incident occurred “in circumstances which will be established”, according to the police source who communicated the facts to AFP. The man, seriously injured, did not survive his injuries, while the two children, present at the time of the accident, were injured and treated in relative emergency.
Following this tragic accident, a medical-psychological emergency unit was deployed to the scene to support witnesses and relatives of the victims.
A context of bad weather against a backdrop of orange vigilance
The accident occurs in a context of strong meteorological instability. Paris is currently placed on orange alert for the risk of rain and flooding. More broadly, six departments, including Ardèche, Rhône, and Alpes-Maritimes, are placed on red alert for increased risks of flooding and high water, while 34 others are on orange alert, according to Météo-France.
