The reception at La Gantoise will be full of emotions for the Union Saint-Gilloise. The unionist family is preparing to pay a final tribute to Auguste Weemaels.

From the outside, the name of Auguste Weemaels was not the best known. And for good reason, he preferred to stay in the shadows. But his work behind the scenes greatly contributed to the rise of the Union Saint-Gilloise.

A unionist from the start, he financially supported the club in difficult times, particularly during lean periods in the lower divisions. Along with Jürgen Baatzsch and Guy Brison, he worked greatly to transmit the Union to its current owners, allowing the development of the club.

Auguste Weemaels will not be forgotten by Stade Marien

“In 2018, his support for the academy was vital. The role he played in selling his shares to Tony Bloom and me makes him a key man in the current successes. He took care of the Union Saint-Gilloise and the Union Saint-Gilloise took care of him,” declared president Alex Muzio.

Auguste Weemaels unfortunately died at the beginning of the month, following a long illness. For the first home match since his death, the Union is preparing to pay him a vibrant tribute against La Gantoise.

A final goodbye to the man, who recently created the non-profit organization Parepour, with the aim of helping Saint-Gilles supporters.
