A former Canadian Olympic snowboard athlete is wanted in the United States on several charges for his participation in an international drug trafficking network and for several murders committed in Ontario, American authorities said Thursday.

Ryan James Wedding is one of 16 defendants named in an indictment filed in California detailing an alleged operation to move large quantities of cocaine from Colombia to Canada through Mexico and California and other parts of the United States.

Authorities said Wedding, 43 and living in Mexico, is considered a fugitive.

Wedding represented Canada in snowboarding at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake Cityin 2002.

The FBI is offering a reward of US$50,000 (C$69,000) for information leading to his arrest and extradition to the United States.

The indictment lists other Canadians who also allegedly participated in the criminal operation.
