Different municipalities in Haute-Loire were flooded on Thursday October 17, while the department was placed on red alert for floods.
In Haute-Loire, the town of Brives-Charensac was flooded on Thursday, October 17, after a flood of the Loire. The municipal stadium is underwater. The football field is nothing more than a muddy lake. Helpless, the residents notice the rising waters. Several municipalities in the department are flooded. The Lignon overflowed, carrying away vehicles. In the town of Chambon-sur-Lignon (Haute-Loire) drifting cows found themselves trapped by the current.
Haute-Loire was placed on red alert for floods. The town’s campsite was ravaged in just a few minutes by the floods. “We have a good cry and then we’re going to roll up our sleeves (…) we’re off to the 2025 season,” says Virginie Bortzmeyer, owner of the Le Lignon campsite. In Tence (Haute-Loire), the dams hastily erected by residents seem paltry compared to the flow of the river.
