Nashville Predators defenseman Luke Schenn will reach the 1,000-game mark against the Edmonton Oilers at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday.

Drafted in the first round by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008, Schenn played with eight teams during his career: the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings, Ducks of Anaheim, the Predators and the Maple Leafs. He notably helped the Lightning win the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021.

In 999 games, he totaled 198 points (43 goals, 155 assists).

The road hasn’t always been easy, Schenn admitted. I have experienced the ups and downs. Stanley Cup conquests as well as referrals to the American League (AHL) in the middle of my career. The match itself is nothing special, it’s the journey that led to it that is. I could never have predicted this a few years ago. »

Schenn is in his second season with the Predators and he stands out for his leadership in the locker room and his toughness on the ice. Forward Steven Stamkos, who reunites with Schenn after playing alongside him in Tampa Bay, had kind words for his teammate after Thursday’s morning skate.

“Schenn is a unifier,” he first emphasized. He is most comfortable in groups. He likes to be surrounded by people with a common goal. He gets the best out of himself and others.

“Seeing him work every day is contagious, whether in the gym or on the ice. He is also a family man, a role model for the younger ones and an incredible teammate. I’m excited to share this moment with him tonight. »
